Why we started
BAAN was founded to make conversations about retirement living and care in Thailand clearer for overseas families. We work with a growing group of providers and check the suitability of each proposed introduction for the individual situation. We explain who will deliver each service and what it will cost before anyone commits.
Planning retirement or care in another country raises questions that are hard to answer from a distance: which areas suit, who provides what, what it really costs, and who is responsible if something changes. We help families work through those questions with clear information, and we say so when Thailand does not look like the right answer.
Who we are
BAAN RetireEase Thailand is based in Thailand and is run by its two founders. We work with families in the UK and elsewhere by email, phone and video call.

How we check before an introduction
We work with selected providers in Thailand and review suitability, availability, service scope and practical arrangements for each enquiry before making an introduction. The providers available will depend on location and individual needs.
For each proposed introduction we ask about, and review, the points that matter for that person:
- The services the provider actually offers, and the needs it can and cannot take on
- Whether it has availability for the timing you have in mind
- The licences relevant to the service it provides
- Staffing, including night cover, cover for time off and English-speaking staff
- Prices, what is included and what is charged separately
- How it handles emergencies and transfers to hospital
- Its own assessment process before accepting someone
- Whether a visit or trial stay is possible
If a provider cannot give clear answers on these points, we do not make the introduction. Where our guides mention a care home or hospital by name, it is an example of what exists in that area, not a BAAN partner, unless we say otherwise.
How we are paid
Your initial conversation with BAAN is free. We explain any BAAN fees and any referral arrangement relevant to your options before you decide. If you choose a provider, you normally contract with and pay that provider directly. Optional BAAN concierge work is quoted and agreed in writing before it begins.
BAAN does not currently have a referral arrangement with any provider, so no provider pays us when you choose them. If we agree one in future, we will tell you before you decide whether it applies to an option we suggest. Either way, we explain why we think each option may suit you, you see the provider’s own terms and price before you commit, and you are free to choose any provider, or none at all.
Your choices, and our limits
You can stop at any point. You decide whether to go ahead with any provider, and choosing none is always an option. The person the enquiry is about is involved in decisions about their own life and care wherever possible, and we ask for consent before sharing personal details with any provider.
BAAN is not a care provider, a medical service, an emergency service, a visa agent, or a legal, tax or financial adviser. Clinical decisions remain with qualified professionals, and the services you receive are provided under each provider’s own terms.
When Thailand may not be the right choice
Care or retirement in Thailand is not the right answer for everyone. In some situations another route will serve your family better, and we would say so.
- Someone with very advanced dementia or complex medical needs that require constant, hospital-level nursing may be safer with specialist care closer to home.
- If the person strongly objects to moving, or moving so far from family and familiar surroundings would cause real distress, that concern should carry significant weight.
- Care funded by the NHS or a local authority generally cannot be transferred abroad.
- Where a condition is likely to change quickly, distance, travel and visa timelines may make a UK option more sensible.
If any of these apply, we will tell you plainly. Our aim is a good decision for your family, which sometimes means Thailand, and sometimes does not.
